Margaret L. Waddington

Margaret Waddington, a resident of Century Oaks, a CBRC in Neenah, passed away May 17, 2006. She was born in Fond du Lac, February 3, 1917, the second daughter of Avila (Frenchy) and Grace Brindley LePine. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School at 16, and attended secretarial school before moving to St. Louis, Missouri to work as a secretary for the Kinney Shoe Company's district office. There she met Walter Waddington while both lived at The Pine Club. They married on December 14, 1941, exactly one week after Pearl Harbor, Walter was already a member of the Army Signal Corps so they were married between trains in St. Louis that Sunday, rather than the following Februrary in Fond du Lac as they originally planned. Margaret moved 9 times during the war, following Walt during training and moving to live with his parents for some of that time. She worked for Kinney shoes during these years, first as a secretary, salesgirl and then as a manager. After the war they lived in Illinois, finally moving back 'home' in the early 1950's. Here she was an active mother, wife and church member. She was a member of Sacred Heart and St. Louis parishes at various parts of her life. She was active as a leader in PTA and Girl Scouts. When her husband died in 1975, she returned to the work force, working for the county as a liaison to senior citizens. She helped orient people to the services of the county and volunteered as a Homestead Tax preparer. Later she worked as a volunteer peer counselor for St. Agnes Hospital. She was proud of her work, both paid and volunteer, and especially proud of being a 'Grey Panther' for the new Senior Center where she assisted directing. She remained in Fond du Lac until late 2001 when she fell, breaking a hip.She is survived by her children and their families: Dennis Waddington and wife, Jane Van De Hey, of Neenah, Jane Applewhaite and husband John of Georgetown, Texas, Gail (Gillie) Waddington and partner, Carolyn, of Ithaca, New York, and 'adopted daughter' Sue Schulz and husband Larry, of North Fond du Lac as well as one nephew, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many dearly loved friends. Her parents, her sister, Doris Glassel in 2004, and her husband, Walter, preceded her in death in 1975.



Visitation will be held Monday, May22 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Liturgy of the word services will be at 6PM with the Deacon Larry Hughes officiating.
