Marion Sorenson, nee Pickart, 90, of Fairview Heights, IL, formerly of Fond du Lac, born December 23, 1916 in Johnsburg, WI, died January 11, 2007. She worked at Infant Socks in Fond du Lac, and at Hansens Glove Factory in Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud P. Sorenson, whom she married April 16, 1941, and who died July 27, 1981; her parents, Albert and Mathilda Pickart; her son, Robert, who died in childhood; two brothers, Ernest and Harvey Pickart; two sisters, LaVera Schmitz and Elsie Sonnenberg, and various nephews.Surviving is a daughter, Jean, and son-in-law, Rod Hannes of Fairview Heights, IL; five grandchildren, Lara (Russell) Peterson, East St. Louis, IL, Jason Hannes, Fairview Heights, IL, Jeremy (April) Hannes, O'Fallon, IL, John Hannes, Chicago, IL, Rebecca Hannes, Collinsville, IL, five great-grandchildren, Kateri, Soren, and Demetri Peterson; Tyler and Kaitlyn Hannes; many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to nephew Kenneth Sonnenberg; Nieces, Joan Sonnenberg, Nancy, Nee Sonnenberg, Scharf, and Kathy, Nee Sonnenberg, Smelilis.Marion, raised on the family farm near Johnsburg, was a city-girl at heart. She lived most of her life in Fond du Lac with just a short interlude in Milwaukee while her husband served as a Marine in the Pacific during World War II. Marion enjoyed reading, gardening, and home making, and traveled frequently to various states to visit her daughter and family. She and Bud made several trips to Alaska and the Northwest. Following her husband's death, she traveled to the Philippines to visit her daughter and family, who were stationed at Clark AFB. Niece Joan Sonnenberg accompanied her. She maintained her home in "Fondy" for 17 years after Bud's death and then moved to Fairview Heights, IL, to be near her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. She found a caring community of friends at Charles Gardens Retirement Community in Fairview Heights, IL. The family extends special thanks to the staff and residents of Charles Gardens for their loving care and kindness.



Visitation for Mrs. Marion Sorenson will be on Sunday, January 21, 2007, from 12 noon to 1 pm at the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Funeral services will be at 1 pm at the chapel. Russell Peterson will officiate and private entombment will follow the services. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
