Marlene E. Schmitt

December 24, 1937 — November 25, 2020

Marlene E. Schmitt, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 25, 2020. She was born December 24, 1937, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Shave) Sitzwohl in Fond du Lac, WI. On June 23, 1956 she was united in marriage to her best friend, Gerald “Jerry” W. Schmitt at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary, WI.



Marlene was a military wife in the Air Force. She enjoyed being stationed in different parts of the United States meeting new people and making lifelong friends. She was an avid bowler, volleyball player, and gardener, enjoyed reading good novels, listening to music and was an amazing cook. After retiring from Eden Cannery where she was a lab technician for 17 years, she started a new chapter in her life traveling with her husband, Jerry and enjoying life together. She will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, and friends.



She is survived by her children, Steve (Debi) Schmitt of Crestview, FL, Jenny Steffes of Fond du Lac, WI, and Bradley Schmitt of DeFuniak Springs, FL; grandchildren, Chrystal (Jason) Vickers, Heather (Chris) Ortega, Carley (James) Hoelzel, and Holley Steffes (Jake); great grandchildren, Devon, Taylor, Braylen, Carter, Alexandria, Alexander, Emilia, and Onyx. Preceding her in death where her parents; her husband of 55 years, Gerald; son, Rodney Schmitt; friend, Terry McClama; siblings, Donald (Jeanie) Sitzwohl, Charles (Lorraine) Sitzwohl, Genieve (Ralph) Munson, Laverne (Gehard) Gunderson, and Betty (Jack) Zanders; father and mother-in-law, Leo and Angeline Schmitt; brother-in-law, Leo Schmitt, Jr.; sister-in-law, Diane Sonnenburg; and niece, Robin Koepke.



The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Nikki and her staff at Woodlands Senior Park and Denise and her staff from Agnesian Hospice Hope for the care and kindness they showed our Mother on her journey home.



Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring of 2021.
