Mary Lee Stokosa (Oja), 62 of Fond du Lac, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2007, at her residence. She was born Mary Lee Goodman on October 27, 1944, in Escanaba, MI, the daughter of the late Wilbert and Ella Watts Goodman. She married Robert Oja in Chicago, and he preceded her in death. She later married Vincent Stokosa. In 1975, Mary Lee moved to Fond du Lac where she worked as a speech therapist for CESA 6 in the surrounding areas for 25 years, retiring in June of 2000. In 1985, she earned her Masters Degree in speech therapy from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Mary Lee will be remembered as a person who enjoyed being active. She was a member of the running and ski clubs. She loved biking, camping, swimming, and enjoyed playing sports, any outdoor activity, and a variety of games. Surviving is her husband, Vince, of Fond du Lac, two sons, Rob (Sherry) Oja of Janesville, and Randy (Vickie) Oja of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Marshall, Sheldon, Kaylee, and Jake. She is further survived by her two brothers, Bill (Bergit) Goodman of Bemidji, MN, and Paul (Marilyn) Goodman of Gladstone, MI, and one sister, Pat (Chuck) O'Donnell of Rapid River, MI; five step-children, Pat (Dick) Otto and Barb (Al) Wirkus, all of Fond du Lac, Jim (Nancy) Stokosa of Stevens Point, Joan (Pete) Ziegelbauer of Fond du Lac, and Tom (Nedie) Stokosa of Long Beach, CA, five step-grandchildren, Clint, Chantel, Ryan, Caleb, and Mark, and two great-step-grandchildren, Matt and Audrey. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, John (Anna) Stokosa of Snoqualmie, WA. Her parents, first husband, and a brother, Wayne Goodman, preceded her in death.
Visitation for Mrs. Mary Lee Stokosa (Oja) will be on Friday, September 21, 2007, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Saturday, September 22, from 10 to 11 am at Salem United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 am at the church. The Rev. David Byers-Dent will officiate and burial will be in Estabrooks Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Mary Lee's name.
