MELVIN J. SCHMITZMelvin J. Schmitz, age 81, of 185 E. Arndt St, Fond du Lac, died Sunday, July 23, 2006 at All About Life Rehabilitation Center. He was born on November 23, 1924 in Marytown the son of Joseph L. and Isabella (Faber) Schmitz. He attended Visitation Catholic Grade School, Marytown. On September 28, 1949 he married Christina G. Wagner at St. Patrick's Church, Fond du Lac. He worked for Verifine Dairy and for Steffke and Spector Freight. Melvin was a member of Holy Family Parish, St. Patrick's Holy Name Society, St. Joseph's Society, and the St. Lawrence Seminary Guild. He was active with his sons in Scouting Program. Melvin enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Green Bay Packers. Melvin took pride in his vegetable garden. SURVIVORS: his wife, Christina of Fond du Lac, John M. Schmitz and his wife Nancy of Fond du Lac, Thomas R. Schmitz and his wife Susan of Fond du Lac, Mary Elaine D. Rosenthal and her husband Richard of Fond du Lac, Julie Ann D. Schmitz of Fond du Lac, Michael G. Schmitz and his wife Patti of Fond du Lac, Joseph Schmitz of Ripon, grandchildren, James (Anne), David, and Daniel Schmitz, Rachael (John) Schmitz Smith and Valerie (William) Schmitz Everson, Jason (Jennifer), Kari, and Ryan Rosenthal, Christopher Rosekrans, Cory and Jaime Schmitz, great-grandchildren, Victoria Smith, Jaanika Rosenthal, and Franklin Everson, his brother, Raymond Schmitz of Marytown, his sister, Marjorie Schneider and her husband Claude of Mt. Calvary, brothers in law, Wally Mand, Gerald Blonigen, and Benno (Florence) Wagner, sisters in law, Alma Schmitz and Alma (Melvin) Kraus, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one deceased son, Ronald R. Schmitz in March of 1970, four sisters, Ruth Schmitz, Dorothy Freund, Janet Mand, and Delores Blonigen, one brother, John Schmitz, two brothers in law, Lestor Schmitz and Melvin Freund.
VISITATION: Wednesday, July 26, 2006 from 3-8 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. FUNERAL: Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Parish-Sacred Heart Church. Prayers will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 10:30 A.M. Friends may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M. until the time of prayers. Burial will follow the service at St. Charles Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Melvin's name.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
