Michael E. Marks

Michael E. Marks, 75, formerly of 36 E. Cotton Street, and a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home since November of 2010, died Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born December 24, 1935, in Horicon, WI, the son of Michael B. and Florence Braun Marks. He was a 1953 graduate of Horicon High School. He later attended the University of Wisconsin extensions at Marinette and Fond du Lac and Marian University and earned his Associated Arts Degree. Since 1960, he was a self-employed bookkeeper. As a professional entertainer, Mike played in many musical groups, including Two Hits and A Miss, Side By Side, Whoppie Norm Edlebeck and the Dairyland Dutchman, the Don Peachy Orchestra, Geriatric Jazz, and since 1976, the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band. He was director of the Marquis Drum and Bugle Corps for several years in the 1960's, and was a member of the Evening Optimist Club and served on its committee that helped preserve the Fond du Lac Lighthouse. Surviving is a daughter, Mari (Scott) Behnke of Eden, two sons, Mick (Julie) Marks of Beaver Dam and Aaron (Special Friend, Lizzy Diemer) Marks of New Brighton, MN, four grandchildren, Kevin and Kelly Marks and Matt and Taryn Behnke. He is further survived by a brother, Ronald (Ann) Marks of Green Bay,his step-children, Karl (Jessica) Albert of Beaver Dam, MSG Joe (Dolsie) Albert of Whiteman AFB, MO,and Ann (Dan) Loehr of Campbellsport, his special friend, Kerm Giles of Fond du Lac, and his former wives, Marlene (Dick) Mannigel of Waupun and Polly Mueller of Fond du Lac. His parents preceded him in death.



Visitation for Michael E Marks will on Monday, July 25, 2011, from 4 to 8 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and again on Tuesday, July 26th, from 10 to 11 AM at Ascension Lutheran Church, 901 County Road V, Fond du Lac. A Celebration of Mike's life will be at 11 AM on Tuesday at the church. Pastor Jeff Blain will officiate and cremation will follow the services. Committal of cremated remains will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church, the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, or Agnesian Hospice Hope.Mike's family would like to thank Mary Arthur, Bob Shirek, and John Lepien who enabled Mike to attend Aaron's graduation from the University of Minnesota and to Pete Runde for being a special friend. They also wish to thank the various healthcare providers who took care of Dad: Agnesian Hospice Hope, the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, Froederdt Lutheran Memorial Hospital.
