Mildred A. Bortner, 84, of 653 W. Arndt Street, died at St. Agnes Hospital on Sunday, September 27, 2009. She was born March 16, 1925, in Waupun, the daughter of Aaron and Bessie Rens Loomans. On September 24, 1945, she married Kenneth R. Bortner in Pipestone, MN. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1978. Mrs. Bortner attended Willow Creek Grade School in rural Waupun, and graduated from Brandon High School. She was a member of the Church of Peace-United Church of Christ. Tolibia Cheese, Combined Insurance, and ADVOCAP formerly employed Mildred. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, going to Doe camp, taking about happy memories with the Hanson Clan, and especially being with her granddaughter, Melissa. Surviving are two sons, Reggie (Cheree) Bortner of Fond du Lac and Steven (Karen) Bortner, of Colorado Springs, CO, ten grandchildren, Mike (Dawn) Resop, Jeff Resop, and Chad Resop, Jason Bortner, Travis Bortner, Kelsey and Ryan Kelly, Corey (Special Friend Lindsey) Bortner, Ryan Bortner, and her beloved Melissa Bortner, great grandchildren, Chrisette Nordmeier, Stephen Nordmeier, and Courtney McCrary, Mason Holtermann, David Jorgenson, Sara, Krystin, and Kaytlin Resop, Elizabeth and Patrick Resop and Tobey Bortner. She is further survived by a sister, Hilda (Gordon) Krentz of Hartford, WI, her former daughter-in-law, Rae Ann (Steve) Jurgensmeier of Fond du Lac, a sister-in-law, Lorraine Loomans of Waupun, nieces, nephews, and her best friend of many years, Lorsey Hanson of Fond du Lac, and the whole Hanson Clan. Her parents, husband, a daughter, Patricia Resop, a son-in-law, David Resop, a brother, Al Loomans, and four sisters preceded her in death.
Visitation for Mrs. Mildred A. Bortner will be on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, from 9 to 11 am at Church of Peace-United Church of Christ, 158 S. Military Road, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Wednesday at the church. The Revs. Jennifer C.M. Dawson and James F.D. Martin will officiate and entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park. Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
