Nancy S. Steinke

December 29, 1950 — February 22, 2016

Nancy S. Steinke of Fond du Lac passed away unexpectedly at her home on Mon. Feb. 22, 2016. She was born in Fond du Lac on Dec. 29, 1950, a daughter of Vincent and Margaret (Kelly) Geelan.

Nancy was a 1969 graduate of St. Mary’s Springs Academy, and received a diploma as a licensed Practical Nurse from Moraine Park and then obtained her state licensure as an LPN. As she gained experience, Nancy was granted licensure as a Nursing Home Administrator. She worked at the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home (now closed), was the Administrator at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein and the Christian Home & Rehabilitation Center in Waupun. For more than a decade, she was a partner and eventually became sole owner, of Touchstone Living Center in North Fond du Lac. Additionally, Nancy served on national committees, was a consultant, a speaker and as a board member for a non-profit organization.

She genuinely loved her profession and provided loving and compassionate care to her residents and comfort to countless families in need of her help.

Nancy was first of all a loving and devoted mother to her son, Matthew and a cherished member of her family. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Community and very active in many organizations; the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #57, Eagles Aerie 270, the Fond du Lac Yacht Club, Weight Watchers and the Windhover Center for the Arts (now THELMA). She was a real estate broker, had owned a CURVES franchise in Waupun and for decades was a faithful volunteer at Walleye Weekend in Fond du Lac. She also served on the board for the Hospice Charity Open. As a committed volunteer for the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, Nancy could be found at the entrance to Pick ‘n Save on W. Johnson St. in Fond du Lac. The weather never could be counted on to cooperate, but it didn’t stop Nancy. She was there, religiously, ignoring the elements and greeting all those with whom she came in contact with.

She is survived by her son, Matthew Steinke; sister, Carol Jean (Ned) Dana; 2 brothers, Jim (Kathy) Geelan and David (Mary Lynn) Geelan, all of Fond du Lac; 8 nephews and nieces, John, Shawn, Brian, Stephen, and Sarah, Michael, Peter and Zachary; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Margaret Beth Geelan; 3 nephews, Patrick David Geelan, Vincent Edward Dana and David James Dana; both her maternal and paternal grandparents; and special friend, Harry Duehring.
