Natalie M. Basler, 94, of Rosendale, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Tower View Villa with family surrounding her in love. She was born March 7, 1923 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Mike and Rose Koenen Simon. Nattie met her husband at a baseball game and on June 15, 1943 she married Ralph H. Basler in Fond du Lac and he preceded her in death on September 15, 1989. Although her main job was raising her sons and working the farm in Eldorado, she also worked at Miles-Kimball and as a cook at Rosendale/Brandon schools. She also painted houses with her best friend, Doris Duel.
Nattie was strong in faith, living her life in community service volunteering many hours at St. Agnes Hospital. She was very proud of donating over 20 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross and while living in Fond du Lac she spent many Fridays working the local food bank. Nattie’s grandchildren will always cherish the afghans she made for their high school graduations and the yearly Christmas ornaments she gave them. She enjoyed traveling with family to Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Italy, Sicily, La Madalena, Ireland, England, and Wales. One of her fondest memories was parasailing in Mexico.
Nattie enjoyed sports, she played baseball and was a pitcher on a church softball team. She played sports with her sons any chance she could. Nattie spent many years bowling and enjoyed a good card game, especially cribbage or sheepshead. She also enjoyed music and was a drummer in a girl’s band, played piano and organ, and sang with Sweet Adelines and in the church choir as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldorado.
She is survived by five sons, Robert Basler, John (Kathy) Basler, Tom (Marcia) Basler, Ken (Kristi) Basler, and Ed Basler; daughter-in-law, Pam Basler; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; one brother, Cyril (Athleen) Simon; sister-in-law, Mildred Simon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; one son, Dave Basler; two daughers-in-law, Mary Basler and Julie Basler; two sisters, Cres and Elvira; and four brothers, Ambrose, Francis, Alex, and Bob.
The visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Our Risen Savior Catholic Church in Woodhull. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Our Risen Savior Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to all the staff and residents of Tower View Villa for making this a wonderful home for Natalie the past four years. Also we are so grateful for the support from Agnesian Hospice Hope during Nattie’s final days.
