Neil C. BattermanNeil C. Batterman, 83, of W5590 Highway B, Town of Byron, Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born April 8, 1922, in Fond du Lac, a son of Charles and Minna Arndt Batterman. On June 5, 1948, he married Ruth L. Zills at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakfield. She preceded him in death in 1974. Mr. Batterman was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was owner and operator of Batterman Livestock Trucking for 33 years, transporting livestock to Equity Livestock of Lomira, Milwaukee Stockyard in Reesville, and Great Northern of Fond du Lac. In addition to his trucking business, he farmed in the Town of Byron. He was a member of the Fond du Lac County Pork Producers, a former 4-H leader, a Town of Byron chairman and supervisor, and current president of the Byron Cemetery Association. Neil was very active in the transportation of animals of 4-H kids to county and state fairs, district and state Holstein shows, and the World Dairy Expo. He would help anyone, especially children with their 4-H projects. His customers and patrons were more importantly his friends, and he would do anything for them. Surviving is a son, Lee (Ruth) Batterman of Fond du Lac, a daughter, Kay (David) Steffens of Fond du Lac, seven grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Ryan, Emily, and Allison Batterman, and Brian and Scott Steffens,. He is further survived by two brothers, Wayne (Kaye) Batterman of Evans, GA, and Dale (Carol) Batterman of Mt. Morris, WI. His parents, wife, and a grandson, Charles, preceded him in death.
Visitation for Mr. Neil C. Batterman will be on Friday, December 16, 2005, from 4 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and from 11 am to 12 noon on Saturday, December 17, 2005, at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakfield. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Saturday at the church. The Rev. Robert Bitter will officiate and burial will be in the Town of Byron Cemetery.
