Nick Kallas

Nick Kallas, 78, of Fond du Lac passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010, with his family at his side.He was born July 30, 1931, in Fond du Lac, the son of Mike and Angeline Saroglas Kallas of Zakynthos and Samos, Greece, respectively. Nick was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church to which he was tirelessly devoted.He graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High School in 1950. He was the first student in the school's history to run the hundred yard dash in 10 seconds and held this record for decades before it was broken. After graduating from high school, Nick served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Nick worked for Sheboygan Glass Company for 40 years where he took great pride in providing exceptional service to his customers. On June 6, 1954, Nick married Peggy Anthonasin and they remained lifelong best friends. His passions in life were his family and friends. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his children's sports interests, to which he remained fervently involved for years even after his children were grown.



Surviving is his beloved ex-wife Peggy; their four children, Angela Kallas of Baltimore, MD, Anne Kallas of Fond du Lac, Michael Kallas of Portland, OR, and Dean (Gloria) Kallas of Madison, a daughter-in-law, Gloria (Dean) Rodriguez De Kallas; and one grandchild, Nicolas Kallas. He is further survived by nieces, nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Gabriel Litman and Dr. Yasir Hatahet for their loving and compassionate care. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Aurora Health Center, Agnesian HealthCare and St. Francis Home for the empathy they have displayed to the entire family throughout the years.Visitation: Visitation for Nick Kallas will be on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. Trisagion service will be at 7 p.m.Services: Additional visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church , 198 N. Macy St., Fond du Lac with Fr. Peter Pappademetriou officiating. Burial will follow at Rienzi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or St Francis Home.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home of Fond du Lac is in charge of arrangements.
