Norbert “Nubby” H. Wallender, 85, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born February 26, 1931 in North Fond du Lac, the son of William and Bertha Salzman Wallender. Nubby served in the US Navy during the Korean War. On August 24, 1957 he married Karilyn J. Hannes at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Fond du Lac and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2005. He worked for Mercury Marine retiring in 1993 and was co owner of City Slickers for 12 years with his son, Joe. Nubby was a member of Holy Family Parish and the American Legion. In 2014 he was able to enjoy the Honor Flight to Washington DC. He was a Golden Glove Champion and taught boxing for several years at the YMCA. Nubby enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, dancing, scratch offs, watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and going to the cabin up north.
He is survived by four children, Cynthia (Daniel) Kraft of Fond du Lac, Ellen (Dale) Kohls of Fond du Lac, James (Anne) Wallender of Florida, and Joseph (Sandra) Wallender of Fond du Lac; nine grandchildren, Adam Kohls, Heather (Scott) Klein, T.J. Rodriguez, Rebeca (Alex) Fiebig, Courtney (T.J.) Johnson, Lauren Wallender, Alex (Brooke) Wallender, Tad (Heidi) Wallender, and Whitney Wallender; thirteen great grandchildren, Addison Lee, Kayden and Bailey Fiebig, Autumn, Acelynn, and Scarlett Rodriguez, Emily and Jacob Klein, McKenna and Colton Johnson, Oscar Nett, Paisley and Kip Wallender. He is further survived by his brother, Bill (Judy) Wallender of Minocqua; two sisters, Ann Meyer of Fond du Lac and June (Morrie) Erickson of Brownsville; brother and sister-in-laws, Tom Hannes of Fond du Lac, Suzanne Higgins of Fond du Lac, Claudia (Jim) Kitts of Fond du Lac, and Rodney (Jean) Hannes of St. Louis, MO; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Cleone Hannes; one brother, Robert (Patsy) Wallender; in-laws, Howard Meyer, John Higgins, James Hannes, and Marion Hannes; and three nephews, Mike Erickson, Jeffrey Wallender, and Richard Wallender.
The visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Tuesday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the funeral home. The Liturgy of the Word service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Estabrooks Cemetery.
