The Lord called Orren Louis Grundmeier to his heavenly home after granting him 93 years of grace. He died peacefully at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on May 14, 2011. He was born on the family farm to Christian parents, Hugo Herman Carl Grundmeier and Anna Christina (Mergele) on October 24, 1917, in Carroll County, Iowa. He was received into the Kingdom of God, by the washing of Holy Baptism, on September 21, 1924, and confirmed in the faith of Christ Jesus (John 10:27-28) on March 25, 1934, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Carroll, Iowa. He graduated from Carroll High School on May 29, 1936. He began his military service on January 29, 1943, where he served in the US Army Air Force Technical Training Command and was honorably discharged January 31, 1946. On September 1, 1951, he was married to his BW (beautiful wife) Patricia Janet Jenc at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked more than thirty years in the electrical motor business at both Sundermann Brothers (Arno and Wilbert) and Electric Motor Service (John and Linda Hackfort) servicing electrical power units for hospitals, nursing homes, fire stations, and farms in Carroll, Iowa. From 1965-1993 he also installed draperies for Pat's Drapery and Sewing, his wife's business. He retired from the motor shop at age 70 in 1987 and retired six years later from the drapery business. After retirement, he moved to Fond du Lac where he cherished serving the Lord at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS). Orren's favorite Bible passage was Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." Orren enjoyed God's creation through fishing, and at the age of 73 made his first trip to the Boundary Waters. He treasured his time with his family, and for 27 years spent his vacations with them in Door County, Wisconsin. He was an avid player of the card game 500 and Yooper Cup family football challenge. He liked solving the Jumble word puzzle from the newspaper with his morning coffee. He also enjoyed the creative challenge of making something useful out of wood scraps and keeping his home and car in good repair.He is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children, Janet (George) Ott, of Naperville, Illinois, David Grundmeier (Carol Lamphere) of East Lansing, Michigan, Brian (Ruth Kaiser) Grundmeier of Houston, Texas, Gloria (David) Meyer of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Stewart (Rhonda Maahs) Grundmeier of Green Bay, Wisconsin; twelve grandchildren, Paul Ott, Jacqueline Ott, Daniel Young, Katherine Young, Timothy (Erika Schreiner) Grundmeier, Jeffrey (Valerie Leinberger) Grundmeier, US Marine Second Lieutenant Robert Grundmeier, Jill Grundmeier (Michael Knepprath), Jennifer Meyer, Rebekah Meyer, Nathan Grundmeier, Jack Grundmeier; two great grandchildren, Eloise Grundmeier and Emma Grundmeier; two sisters Marie Dion and Letha Grundmeier; brother-in-law Richard Jenc; sister-in-laws Diane Jenc and Dorothy (Ken) Knudson; nieces and nephews; and extended family and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sisters; brothers Ralph Grundmeier, Harold Grundmeier, and Russell Grundmeier; sisters-in-laws Pearl (Jentzen) Grundmeier, Marion (Lau) Grundmeier, Althea (Beckwith) Grundmeier, and Marilyn Jenc; brother-in-law Maurice Dion; grandson Matthew Grundmeier; and in-laws Arthur Jenc and Alvira (Matthias) Jenc.Friends are welcome to join with his family in joyful worship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Visitation: The visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Avenue, Fond du Lac, and one hour before the service on Saturday, May 21, at Faith Lutheran Church.Services: A Christian funeral to glorify the Lord will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 55 Prairie Road, Fond du Lac, on Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. with Pastor David Haugly officiating.
