Paul Joseph Sheldon, born in DeSoto, Wisconsin, on November 29, 1945, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at the age of 79. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Wanda Sheldon (Haugen); his children, Mark (Jodi), Melissa (Damian), and Angela (Gary); and his treasured grandchildren, Cole (Hannah), Max (Heather), Brett (Abbey), Syl, Abraham (Kaitlyn), Julia (Jacob), Abigail (Maxson), Daniel, and Luke. Paul’s legacy continues with his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Blair, and Isla. He is also survived by his brother, David (Carolyn); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Etta; his brother, Donald; and his nephews, Greg and Michael.
Paul’s journey began on the family farm in DeSoto, Wisconsin, and took him to Logan High School in La Crosse, where he met the love of his life, Wanda. In 1965, Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War while stationed at Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Paul’s career path reflected his hardworking and adventurous spirit. He served as a patrolman with the Fond du Lac Police Force, worked part-time at Uecker Witt Funeral Home, and took on several over-the-road trucking jobs, enjoying the open road and the independence it provided.
Paul had a passion for life’s simple joys. He loved fishing, cooking, reading, and was an avid fan of racing and college basketball. He had a deep affection for motorcycles, often finding freedom and joy on two wheels. He also adored animals, especially his dogs and cats, who brought him endless companionship and happiness, particularly during his dementia journey.
In the later stages of his life, Paul made a deep and personal commitment to his faith in Christ. This newfound relationship brought him peace and hope, providing strength and inspiration to his loved ones. His unwavering trust in God’s grace became a cornerstone of his life and an enduring legacy for his family.
Those who knew Paul best remember his kind heart, sharp wit, love of jokes and laughter (always accompanied by an affectionate “Uff Da”). His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the great staff at Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center for their love and care during Paul’s stay.
