Pearl A. Cowles

Pearl A. Cowles, 87, formerly of 319 Doty Street, Fond du Lac and a resident of Fond du Lac Lutheran Home died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the home. She was born on July 13, 1919 in Stevens Point, the daughter of John J. and Jenny D. Myers Summers. At the age of 17 Pearl moved to Story City, IA until her marriage on September 7, 1940 to Verne E. Cowles in Nashua, Iowa. Following her marriage they moved to their dairy farm in South Byron. She worked for Sears Department Store for 25 years retiring in 1978. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was a long time treasurer for the Salem United Methodist Women and for the Church Women United of the Fond du Lac area. Pearl loved sending out encouraging notes and cards for every occasion. She sponsored children for the Christian Children's fund. Pearl enjoyed reading, writing poetry, crossword puzzles and loved the Milwaukee Brewers. SURVIVORS: three daughters, Alma Grace, Fond du Lac, Karen (Robert) Petersen, Wausau, Maryruth (Joseph) Burkart, Howards Grove; two sons, Verne (Susan) Cowles, Dublin, CA, Jeffrey (Sharon) Cowles, Fond du Lac; 13 grandchildren, Steven (Amy) Grace, Salina, KS, Robert (Debra Wasson) Grace, Salina, KS, Roger Grace, Milwaukee, Janet (Robert) Forsman, Milwaukee, Edith (Patrick) Petersen-McCarthy, Watertown, Judy (Mark) Lillie, Wausau, Thomas (Rebecca Hotynski) Petersen, Madison, Andrew Petersen, Wausau, Jennifer (Mark) Eirich, Sheboygan, Thomas (Erin) Burkart, Wylie, TX, Susan Burkart, Milwaukee, Nicolas Cowles, Brooklyn, NY, Joshua (Anoush) Cowles, Oshkosh; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Margaret) Summers, Albuquerque, NM; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Verne in November of 1980; one infant granddaughter; one infant grandson; seven sisters and five brothers.



VISITATION: will be from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again from 9-11 AM on Thursday at church. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. David Byers-Dent officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
