Peter Donald “Pete” Tadych
After extended suffering with numerous health issues, Peter Donald “Pete” Tadych, 78, of Fond du Lac, was taken home by the Lord on Friday, November 5, 2021. Pete was born in Manitowoc on August 11, 1943, to William and Phyllis (Shaw) Tadych. On April 4, 1964, he married Barbara “Barb” Kaiser at Church of Peace UCC in Fond du Lac.
After attending St. Mary’s Springs for two years, Pete graduated from Horace Mann High School in North Fond du Lac in 1961. After graduation, he attended the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, before going to work for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a switchman. Over the years, Pete worked for the Soo Line Railroad and later, Wisconsin Central Ltd., serving as a brakeman and yard master, and retired as Superintendent of Transportation.
Pilgrim United Church-Christ benefitted from Pete’s talents in many ways over the years. He served on property, maintenance, and nomination committees, and that of the churches annual ham dinner. Pete was also a congregation treasurer and a past president of the church council. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed countless hours of enjoyment on Lake’s Michigan and Winnebago as well as halibut fishing in Alaska. Pete hunted with friends and relatives throughout Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Wyoming. He especially enjoyed his time hunting with his son, Bill, and grandchildren on Bills land in Adam’s County.
Pete is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barb; children, Linda (Patrick) Friedel and William “Bill” (Vicki) Tadych; grandchildren, Michael (Adam), Olivia, Matt (Meg), Amanda, Marcus, and great-grandson, Fletcher; brother, Michael (Sandra) Tadych; and Tom Gendron, who was like a brother to Pete; in-law’s, Ron (Mary Lee) Fedenko and Dean (Debbie) Kaiser as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Pilgrim United Church-Christ, 535 Stow Street in Fond du Lac. The memorial service will follow, beginning at 2:00 PM with Pastor Steve Hecky officiating. Cremation has taken place.
The family would like to thank the staff at Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation and Agnesian Healthcare Hospice Hope for their care of Pete during his final days.
