Peter G. Roehrig

Peter Gregory Roehrig passed away on Nov 22 at home, surrounded by family after a struggle with an aggressive cancer. He was born May 30, 1949 to Ambrose and Olga (Wirtz) Roehrig. He graduated from New Holstein High School, Northcentral Technical College with an associate degree in Architectural Design, and Marian College with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Pete married Rhonda Bird (Thayer) on September 1, 2007 on the sailboat “Cat Ballou” off the coast of Angel Island in Sausalito, California.



Pete enjoyed the outdoors; time on the water sailing and fishing, as well as hunting. He enjoyed time with family and friends playing cribbage (he still holds the cribbage championship belt). His generosity, quick wit and uncanny ability to tell a story drew many to want to be with him.

He was a motivated businessman who enjoyed the challenge of developing potential in people, resources and markets. He was employed by Eden Stone Company and Valders Stone & Marble-Division of Eden Stone since 2005, Westra Construction from 1980-2005, and Owner of Roehrig Contruction from 1978-1980. He was passionate with his involvement in leadership/professional organizations. Pete was the current chairman of the National Regulatory Committee-National Stone Council, Board Member of National Building Stone Institute (BSI), Former member of Family Forum-Non-Family Executive Group, Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC), Wisconsin Technical Education Advisory Committee, Sales & Marketing Executives International, Design/Build Institute of America, and Jack Miller Network. Leadership positions include Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) where he was a board member of the training and apprenticeship trust, state president, board member & secretary, committee chair, and co-author of the Wisconsin ABC Apprenticeship Standards. He was appointed to two 3-year terms by Governor Thompson on the Wisconsin State Apprenticeship Council. He was an advocate of education and service. He served three 3-year terms as Trustee of the Board at Marian College and served as Charter President of the Fond du Lac Morning Rotary Club and earned the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow.



He is survived by his wife Rhonda, children Megan (Kyle) Long of Jonesborough , TN, Chris (Lara) Roehrig of Stoughton, WI, Step-children Mitch Godfrey of Whitewater, WI, and Marcus and Connor Bird Fond du Lac, WI. He was known to his three grandchildren, Carter & Eli Long and Bennett Roehrig as “Poppa Pete” whom he adored. Mother Olga M. (Wirtz) Roehrig of Fond du Lac, siblings Alan (Mary) Roehrig of West Bend, Bea (Ron) Broege of Fond du Lac, Mike (special friend Sindee) Roehrig of Malone, and Susan Pitzen of Malone. Mother & Father in-law Michael (Lila) Thayer Sr. of Whitewater, Dawn Cresswell sister-in law from Janesville, WI and Michael Jr. (Dawn) Thayer brother-in-law of Almond, WI, and many relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Ambrose L Roehrig and nephew Luke Roehrig.



A Memorial Serivce will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. at Community Church, N6717 Streblow Drive, Fond du Lac, WI, with the Reverend Ken Nabi and Reverend Ken Litscher officiating. Cremation has taken place.
