Philip H. McGee, 90 of Fond du Lac died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Manor Care Health Services. Phil was born on June 15, 1924 in Los Angeles, CA the son of Howard and Josephine (Poole) McGee.
He left high school early and joined the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) in 1942. He was with the 8th Air Force, 448th Bombardment Group stationed in the European Theater of Operations. When he returned from the service, he completed high school and attended California Polytechnic University – San Luis Obispo graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He was employed with Lockheed Aircraft for 5 years. In 1951, he married Dorothy Prinz in Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter they moved to Fond du Lac. He worked for G&L in Field Service as a Supervisor. For 34 years, his duties took him worldwide until retirement in 1986. Philip and Dorothy were avid campers and travelers. They spent summers at Spike Horn Campground in Door County and wintered in Arizona for many years. Philip was a gifted mechanic and could fix anything.
Philip is survived by his children: son Chris of West Bend, daughter Kim (Mike) Haugen of Antigo, and son Cameron (Rachel) of Fond du Lac, three grandchildren: Christine (Jesse) Garcia, Steven McGee and Katie McGee, three step-grandchildren: Ashley Peichl, Matt and Becca Haugen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy who died March 25, 2014, daughter-in-law Marsha McGee, his parents and an infant brother, Douglas.
A visitation for Philip will be held Monday, January 26, 2015 from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 6:00 PM with Pastor Rob J. Ramirez officiating. Cremation has taken place.
