The Lord called Phyllis Lenore Kimpel, 87, home to her eternal rest in heaven on February 23, 2015. She was a resident of Woodlands Senior Park in Fond du Lac. Phyllis was born on November 5, 1927 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac to Edwin and Lenore (Meyer) Hirsig. Phyllis was a graduate of Goodrich High School and married Earl J. Kimpel on June 28, 1947 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.
She lived her entire life in Fond du Lac until moving to Mt. Morris, WI in September of 1989 after her husband’s retirement. She remained there after his death in April of 1992 and then moved back to Fond du Lac 2 years ago. Phyllis was employed at Koehn’s Grocery Store and Thiel’s Drug Store in Fond du Lac. While living in Mt. Morris, she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma, WI and involved in the church’s tape ministry. She was currently a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, playing cards, and was an avid sports fan especially of the Green Bay Packers, Badgers and Brewers.
Phyllis is survived by her three loving daughters; Linda (Jonathan) Hahm from Grafton, and Nancy (Robert) Ring and Susan (Michael) Immel all of Fond du Lac. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Joel (Rachel) Hahm, Anna Huseby, Stephen (Melinda) Hahm, Sarah (John) Brey, David (Melissa) Hahm, Jennifer (Darren) Pautsch, Christine (David) Kobilic, Heather (Silas) McAghon and Patrick Immel, and twenty great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her parents and her sister, Elaine Wettstein.
Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1600 S. Main St. in Fond du Lac, from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM on Friday, February 27, 2015. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Michael Zuberbier officiating. Burial will take place at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Winnebago Lutheran Academy’s Lunch Program.
Phyllis’s family would like to thank Sue Milligan, the staff at Woodlands, and Agnesian Hospice West Team for its loving care provided to our mother during her stay here on earth and loving support provided to her family.
