Raymond E. Puddy, 87, formerly of 273 E. Scott Street and a resident of ManorCare Health Services, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born May 23, 1920, in Fond du Lac, the son of Bert and Hazel McEssy Puddy. On November 20, 1941, he married Bernadette M. "Bernie" Gross in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on December 7, 1998. Ray was a member of Holy Family Parish and a life long member of St. Patrick's Church where he ushered for many years. He was formerly employed by Giddings & Lewis for 44 years retiring in 1982 as a foreman, a member of the G & L Staff Club and the G & L Oldsters, and a past president of the union. After graduating from Fond du Lac High School he enlisted in the US Army and served in Italy during WW II. He was a former member of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 Firing Squad. From 1959 to 1969, Ray served on the Fond du Lac City Council and served as its' President from 1964 to 1969. He later served on the Fond du Lac County Board from 1971 to 1999, and also served as Treasurer of the Fond du Lac County Fair. Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Parish of Cape Canaveral, FL, Kathryn (Thomas) Lemke of Fond du Lac, and Shelly (Jerry) Schneider of St. Peter; five grandsons, Michael (Katie) Parish, Robert (Kathy) Parish, John (Stacy) Parish, Brian (Julie) Parish, and Christopher (Teri) Lemke, and granddaughter, Jennifer (Ron) Sabish, Jr.; 15 great-grandchildren, Sean and Kevin Parish, Bailey and Christopher Parish, Zackary, Brenton, and Shane Parish, Mellissa, Nikolas, Jackalynn, and Jakob Lemke, Kaitlynn, Isabelle, and Benjamin Sabish, Katelyn Parish, and the expected arrival of infant boy Parish, a sister, Evelyn (Jerry) Sharp of San Antonio, TX, three sisters-in-law, Mary Curran of Fond du Lac, Geraldine (Willard) Secor of Appleton, and Barbara (David) Draves of Fond du Lac, a brother-in-law, James Gross of Janesville, and other relatives and friends. His parents, wife, a sister, June Michels, a son-in-law, Dave Parish, two brothers-in-law, Gene Barnes and Bud Curran, and two sisters-in-law, Audrey Gross and Patricia Barnes preceded him in death.
Visitation for Mr. Raymond E. Puddy will be on Thursday, February 28, 2008, from 5 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and again on Friday, February 29th, from 12 to 1 pm at the funeral home. Family prayers will be at 1 pm at the funeral home and Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.
