Rexford P. Lemke, 74, of Pipe was welcomed into Heaven surrounded by his family on Friday, June 7, 2013. He was born July 4, 1938 in Oshkosh, the son of Esther and Robert Lemke. Rex graduated from Goodrich High School in 1957 and continued his education at Fond du Lac Technical School. He married his high school sweetheart Alice Karls on August 9, 1958. They spent over 54 years together in an amazing love story. He was an incredible husband and dad and was very proud of his family. Rex was a Journeyman sheet metal worker for 38 years and was recently recognized for 50 years of continuous service in the Sheet Metal Workers International Association. He won the National Sheet Metal Industry Apprentice Award in 1962. Rex was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Johnsburg. He and Alice shared a love for their family and sturgeon fishing. The "family" sturgeon spearing tradition began when he met Alice and over the years included sturgeon fishing on the Menominee River. Rex's largest sturgeon speared was over 100 pounds and his largest sturgeon caught hook and line was 60 inches. Rex also loved picking his grandchildren up to spend time with them.He is survived by his wife, Alice of Pipe; his six children, Virginia (special friend, Steve) Lemke of Menasha, Joe (Kathy) Lemke of Malone, Jane (special friend, Bill) Lemke of Menasha, Jack (Jenny) Lemke of Menasha, Kim Lemke of Kiel, Dr. Jessica (Brandon) Johnson of Sherwood; his seven grandchildren, Jim (Amanda) Lemke, Jennifer (special friend, Matt) Lemke, Julia (special friend, Nick) Lemke, Allison Lemke, Emily Lemke, Matthew Lemke, Aria Lemke. He is further survived by one brother, John (Sandra) Lemke, Oshkosh; brother-in-law, Irv (special friend, Jean) Tesch, Oshkosh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Amanda Socha, Calumetville, Betty Dziadek, Calumetville, Irene (Leo) Mand, Fond du Lac, Mae (Gene) Schmitz, Green Bay, Eugene (Betty) Karls, Fond du Lac, best friend, Bernard (Sharon) Karls, Pipe, Diane (Jim) Diedrich, Fond du Lac, Andy (Mary) Karls, Fond du Lac, Vernon (Karen) Karls, Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Esther Karls; one brother, Duwayne Lemke, two sisters, Marlene (Bill) Krueger and Althea Tesch; brother-in-law, Richard Socha.
The visitation will take place from 4:00 "“ 7:00 PM on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 "“ 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at St. John's the Baptist Parish, Johnsburg with Rev. Joseph Coerber officiating.
