Richard A. "Dick" Schmitz

November 5, 1951 — September 11, 2018

Richard “Dick” A. Schmitz, 66, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Dick was born in Fond du Lac on November 5, 1951, to Ralph and Elsie (Fiebig) Schmitz. On October 17, 1997 he married Florence Lueck.

Dick was a jack-of-all-trades. He loved working on cars, fishing, watching WWE and Smackdown, and most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren. You could usually find Dick working out in the yard on one of his many projects or sitting on the front porch enjoying the weather.

Dick is survived by his wife, Florence; his children, Richard (Kristel) Sorensen, Kenny (Amy) Schmitz, and Mary Schmitz all of Fond du Lac; 9 grandchildren, Eliana and Christian Sorensen, Trase Jericho, Tori Cupertino, Ariana, Jasmine, Gwen, Jaxon and Evelyn Schmitz; and his sister Kathy Stubbe of Cherokee Village, Arkansas.

In addition, Dick is survived by his mother-in-law, Connie Lueck, of Fond du Lac; 2 brothers-in-law, Dave Kwakkel of Brandon, and Frank (Carrie) Lueck, of Fond du Lac; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; 4 siblings, Karen Kwakkel, James Schmitz, Kenneth Schmitz and Mary Schneider; and 2 brothers-in-law, Bill Schneider and James Stubbe; and his father-in-law, Bill Lueck .

The family would like to give a special thanks to the 6th floor nurses at St. Agnes Hospital as well as Agnesian hospice staff for making Dick comfortable.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Frazier Shelter in Lakeside Park followed by a celebration of life at Backstage Bar and Grill, 101 S. Main St, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935.
