Richard Howard Kuhnz, 90, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015. He was born March 30, 1925, a son of Ervin and Lillian (Schultz) Kuhnz. Dick graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1943 and joined the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) shortly thereafter. He served his country as a ball turret gunner, 15th Air Force, 455th BG, aboard a B-24 “Liberator” Bomber, during World War II. He married his high-school sweetheart, Marie Anne Kuharski, on June 19, 1948. Marie preceded him in death on November 28, 2013. Dick graduated with a B.S. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1949. He worked for National Cash Register as an Accounting Manager for 31 years. Dick enjoyed golf, the Packers, and spending time at his summer cottage on Pearl Lake with family and friends. He was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Mary’s Church, a guide at the Galloway House, a member of the Fond du Lac Senior Center and Taylor Park University, and was a recent resident of Lakeview Estates in Fond du Lac.
Surviving Dick are his 3 children; son, Bradley (Nancy) Kuhnz of Wyoming, MN, daughters, Kaye (Ray) Zeller of Fond du Lac and Connie (David Swirnoff) Kuhnz of Minneapolis, MN; twin brother, Robert (Nancy) Kuhnz, of Fond du Lac; sister-in-law, Mabel Kuharski, of Menona, WI; 5 grandchildren, Damian (Jolene) Cady, Adam (Julie) Cady, Nichole (Craig) Otto, Steven (Jessica) Kuhnz, and Annie Swirnoff; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; brothers, William and Lyle; sister, Evelyn Willie, William; brothers-in-law, Robert Willie, Chester Kuharski, and Kenneth Kuharski; sisters-in-law, Betty (Robert) Kuhnz, Sylvia (Lyle) Kuhnz, Blanche (William) Kuhnz, and Mary Ann Rosenfeldt; and his wife’s parents, Frank (Rose) Kuharski.
Visitation for Dick will be held Monday, July 13, 2015, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 59 E. Merrill Ave. in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM until the time of service. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, in Fond du Lac. Military honors will be presented at the cemetery by the U.S. Air Force.
