Richard "Dick"-"Hack" HackbarthRichard J. "Dick"-"Hack" Hackbarth, 52, of W896 Hackbarth Road, Town of Forest, St. Cloud, died peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2005, at St. Luke's Medical Center, after a courageous three year battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was born April 2, 1953, in Fond du Lac, a son of William and Gloria Schaub Hackbarth. He was a graduate of Campbellsport High School and a member of Shepherd of The Hills Parish, Eden. He currently was employed by FLW Walleye Fishing Tournaments and Louie Birschbach Repairs of Armstrong. He was formerly employed by John Shea Implement, Mercury Marine, the Kohler Company, and In-Fisherman Tournaments. Dick was a charter member of Walleyes for Tomorrow, a member and past President of Lighthouse Anglers, a hunter safety instructor for 18 years in the Fond du Lac and Campbellsport areas, and a Wisconsin Bowhunter & Safety Education Instructor for the past 17 years. He was a Walleye Weekend Fishing Tournament director and volunteer for over 20 years, a member of the Dundee Sportsmen's Club, and a youth mentor for the Gateway Gobblers of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He enjoyed working with kids by introducing them to hunting and fishing. Surviving are his parents, four brothers, Robert (LuAnn) Hackbarth of Elgin, IL, John (Kay) Hackbarth of Glenbeulah, James (Cathy) Hackbarth of Fond du Lac, and Tim (Brenda) Hackbarth of Byron, and two sisters, Linda (Gary) Smet of Fond du Lac, and Sharon (Charlie) Hoepfner of North Fond du Lac. "Uncle Rick" is also survived by four nieces, Sarah Hackbarth, Kimberly Hoepfner, Halie Hackbarth, and Annie Hackbarth, four nephews, Nicholas Hoepfner, William Hackbarth, Jacob Hoepfner, and Ethan Hackbarth, cousins, aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a niece, Marilynn Hackbarth, and a nephew, Nathaniel Hackbarth.
Visitation for Richard J. "Dick"-"Hack" Hackbarth will be on Sunday, July 31, 2005, from 3 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, and on Monday, August 1, 2005, from 9 to 11 am at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Parish, W1562 County Road B, Eden, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 1, 2005, at 11 am at the church. The Rev. Michael Shea will officiate and burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Armstrong.
