Our on-the-go spirited mother passed away on February 24, 2009, in her home with her loving husband Ray at her bedside.Rita was born May 20, 1925, in Charlestown, WI, to Henry and Amelia Heimann. She married Don Halbach in 1943 and had five children. She is preceded in death by Don Halbach and Is survived by her devoted husband Ray Manderscheid, whom she married in 1995, her great grandchildren, grandchildren and all her children Renee Brendler, Sharon Sobieski, Donna Stiles, Donald Halbach (Jr) and Mel Halbach. We will always remember her as the mom who tended the bar; beer battered the fish, fried the scrumptious steak sandwiches and served customers to the wee hours of the morning-all while raising five kids. A pioneer of the woman's movement, her extraordinary work ethic and lust for life provided her the ability to successfully raise 5 children in an uncommon tavern environment. She was the mom with the movie camera, recording, preserving, and reminding us of the reality of a vibrant, loving family. Her beautiful voice punctuated ballads on the juke box and she delighted a packed bar room by singing the National Anthem during the first super bowl,After her children fled the nest she provided the same devout care, love and attention to her grandchildren, Sarah Sobieski, Elizabeth Smith, Matthew Stiles, Emerald and Dustan Halbach and her great grand children, Madeline and Brooke Smith and Manci and Rohan Stiles. The family is forever grateful to Ray, for giving mom the love, care and spirited adventure that she so well deserved.
