Robert "Bob" D. Mitchell

Robert “Bob” Davis Mitchell, 95, of Fond du Lac passed away peacefully Thursday, November 3, 2022 with his children at his side.

Robert was born May 23, 1927 to William and Viola Mitchell in Milwaukee, WI. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served two years on the aircraft carrier USS Boxer as an aviation ordnance man during World War II. He was very proud of the time he spent in the Navy and had many interesting stories to tell. After the service he attended the Chicago Institute of Art.

Upon his return he met and married Eleanore Zauner on August 4, 1949. They then moved to the Fond du Lac area in 1954, where they raised their two children, Robin and Scott.

Robert was an artist at heart. He worked for many local businesses as a commercial artist and designer. He also did free-lance art and created many beautiful paintings. He was a member of the Fond du Lac area artist association for many years. He was also a real estate broker.

Robert enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at his cabin up north. Hunting, fishing, photography, and painting were among his favorite activities. He also loved spending time with family and friends. He loved rainy days and walking in the park.

Survivors include his daughter, Robin Mitchell of Milwaukee; his son, Brian “Scott” (Kris) Mitchell of St. Peter; and very special friend, Eileen Buehrens of Fond du Lac. His twelve grandchildren include, Erica, Heather, Joseph, Kaitlyn, Tara, Tyler, Parker, Sawyer, MaKenna, Crosby, Aleigha, and Kennedy. He also leaves behind ten great granddaughters. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Eleanore, and his siblings, Jean, Doris and William.

At Robert's request the family has chosen to have a private celebration of life at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
