Robert “Bob” L. Faris, 86, died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at his home in Fond du Lac. He was born in Fond du Lac on October 31, 1928, the only son of Philip and Bidie (Seroogy) Faris. Bob married Mary Jo Norton on March 7, 1987 in Green Lake, WI.
Desiring to serve his country during WWII, Bob began his military career in 1945 at the age of 17, serving in the United States Navy (USN). Having trained as an Air Traffic Controller (ATC), he was transferred to the newly formed United States Air Force (USAF) in 1947, retiring as a Senior M/SGT (E8) in 1967. Bob’s career spanned 3 wars; WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He then spent 23 years as a Veterans Employee Representative for the state of Wisconsin, retiring in June of 1990. Bob was a member of the American Legion Trier-Puddy Post #75 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Bohlman-Grimes Post 1904. He was also a faithful donor to the Wounded Warriors Project; a cause which he truly believed in. Bob lived everyday to the fullest. He was passionate about his family, the Packers, golfing, gambling (he and Mary Jo took numerous trips to Las Vegas), fishing and hunting.
Surviving Bob is his wife of 28 years, Mary Jo; his three sons, Steve (Nicolette) of Carmel, IN, Mike (Yuko) of Seattle, WA and Joe (Kelly) of San Clemente, CA; his daughter, Julie (Rich) Nimkie of Fond du Lac; 7 grandchildren, Carson, Nikki, Kacie, Jacob, Joshua, David and Johnny; his sister, Bonnie Marx; and his brother-in-law, Doug (Debbie) Norton. Bob is further survived by nieces and nephews; Mary (Patrick) Mahoney, David Marx, John (Lisa) Brandmeier, Jimmy (Paula) Brandmeier, Joey (Joan) Brandmeier, Michael (Sandy) Brandmeier, Jeff (Gina) Brandmeier, Randy Norton, Kari Norton, Ann (Steve) Wilke and many loving cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Hanky Brandmeier.
Visitation for Bob will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Bob’s cousin, Rev. Anthony Scannell, Capuchin, on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 beginning at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 200 S. Peters Ave. in Fond du Lac. Visitation at church will begin at 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. Military Honors will be presented immediately after the service. Cremation will follow the traditional services.
