He served in the 32D “Red Arrow” or “Les Terribles” Division of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. During the Berlin Crisis of 1961, Bob was among those in the 32D that were called up for a one-year tour of service in the state of Washington. On August 23, 1975, he married Barbara “Barb” Balke at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.
He loved spending time with his family at parties and cookouts. Bob was a joker. With his contagious smile and wonderful sense of humor, he earned the nickname of “the instigator.” Bob was a fan of all things sports, but was especially devoted to the Chicago White Sox. He enjoyed bowling and received numerous trophies over the years. He also had a passion for classic cars. In 2000, Bob retired from Alliance Laundry Systems of Ripon after more than 3 decades of service. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Barb; five children, Scott (Brenda) Bukowiec, Brian Bukowiec, Debra (Bruce) Harke, Michael Bukowiec and Justin (Casey) Wix; nine grandchildren, Travis, Jesse, Steven, Nicole (Andrew), Chelsea, Ben, Tyler, Collin and Sierra; two brothers, Richard “Dick” (Mary) and Frank (Judith); two sisters, Sandra (Jim) Kemnitz and Mary (John) McCadden; one brother-in-law, Carleton Weigel; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Weigel; and an infant grandson, Austin Bukowiec.
Bob’s visitation will be held Wed., Jan. 13, 2016 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Uecker-Witt, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac and again at church on Thur. Jan. 14, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Steven Huff, will begin at 11:00 AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 260 Vincent St. in Fond du Lac with military honors and burial to follow in Estabrooks Cemetery.
Barb and family would like to extend a “BIG” thank you to all current and previous staff members of both Harbor Haven and St. Agnes Hospital for their care of Bob.
