Robert "Bob" M. WeinbergerRobert M. "Bob" Weinberger, 80, of 350 Winnebago Street, North Fond du Lac, died at his home on Wednesday, December 1, 2004. He was born September 2, 1924, in Le Roy, the son of James and Marie Bauer Weinberger. On May 29, 1948, he married Mary Beth "Candy" Caine of Lowell, Wisconsin. A graduate of Mayville High School in 1942, he owned and operated Weinberger's Market of Oakfield for nearly 30 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #664 and the Elks Lodge #57. He was a 30- year member of the Oakfield Fire Department and was a charter member of the Oakfield Lions Club where he had perfect meeting attendance for 32 consecutive years. He was the past president of the St. James Parish Council and served an additional three years as a council member. At St. James, he also served as a reader for 26 years and as a parish trustee for eight years. As a trustee and past president of the Oakfield Village Board and 22-year member of the Fond du Lac County Board, he held the following memberships and positions: past chairman of the Fond du Lac County Social Services Board, past president of Wisconsin Social Services Board; past president of Wisconsin Social Services Board Members and Directors Association, and past president of Eastern Wisconsin Social Services Board Members and Directors. He also served as a member of the State of Wisconsin Health and Social Services Training Advisory Committee; National Association of Counties Steering Committee of Health and Social Services; State of Wisconsin Advisory Committee of Community Services Block Grants; and the Wisconsin Social Services Association State Relations Committee. He served nine years on the board of directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Fond du Lac and eight years on the board of directors of Brooke Industries. He served for three years on the Marian College advisory committee that earned national accreditation for the college's social work school. In 1997, he was chosen Public Citizen of the Year by the Wisconsin chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. He is survived by his wife, Candy, and seven children: Catherine Porter (Mark Schumerth) of Oshkosh, Jeanne M. Weinberger of Fond du Lac, Michelle Burns and Mary Lee (Russell) Lane, all of Waupaca, Julie (Tim) Lang of Green Bay, Peggy (Chris) Anderson of Barnwell, SC, and Scott Weinberger of Milwaukee. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, as well as seven siblings: James and Norbert Weinberger, both of Le Roy, Rita Weinberger of Mayville, Mary Ann Davel of Brookfield, Leon Weinberger of Rio Verde, AZ, Daniel Weinberger of La Crosse, and Alex Weinberger of Tampa, FL. His parents, a son-in-law, Michael Burns, and two brothers, Carl and Tom Weinberger, preceded him in death.



Visitation for Mr. Robert M. "Bob" Weinberger will be on Sunday, December 5, 2004, from 3 to 8 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 6, 2004, at 10 am at Sons of Zebedee-St. James Church, Oakfield. The Rev. Michael Petersen of Sons of Zebedee will officiate.
