Robert O. Galanis, Sr., 48, of 430 E. Scott Street, Ripon, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at his residence. He was born June 15, 1957, in Fond du Lac, the son of Samuel G. and Linda L. (LaShay) Giebel Galanis. He moved from Fond du Lac to Sheboygan in 1977 and remained there until 1983 when he moved to Ripon. Mr. Galanis was formerly employed as a welder at Speed Queen in Ripon for 20 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of Hillside Assembly Church in Ripon. As a professional drummer, he played 10 years in the group, Ground Zero. He was an active poetry writer, winning several awards for his work under the pen name of Oren Wolf. In 1972,73, and 74, he won the state area Junior Olympics springboard diving championships. In 1978, he married Mary Beth Herman in Sheboygan. He is survived by two sons, Rob (Rachel) Galanis, Jr. and Nick (Kristi) Bauer, both of Milwaukee, two sisters, Deb (Jim) Wamser and Claudia "Dolly" Giebel, both of Fond du Lac, and a brother, Claude "Charlie" Giebel of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His faithful four-legged friend, D.O.G, further survives him. His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation for Mr. Robert O. Galanis, Sr. will be on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, from 4 to 7 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 7 pm at the funeral home. The Rev. Don Dieke will officiate. Cremation will follow with inurnment of cremated remains in Estabrooks Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Mr. Galanis' name.
