Robert Roy “Bob” Salter, age 85 of Fond du Lac, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the St. Francis Home. He was born in Fond du Lac on December 17, 1931 to Roy and Laura (Wietor) Salter. Bob’s youth was spent working on the family farm located south of Fond du Lac on Kelley Road. He graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1949. On March 4, 1952, Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army. A veteran of the Korean War, he was a truck driver attached to the 82nd Engineering Pipeline Company, serving until February 19, 1954. On July 3, 1954, he married Jean Meyn at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. She preceded him in death on September 19, 1995.
He worked several years at both Wells Manufacturing and Giddings & Lewis (G&L) and was also a farm hand. Bob and Jean bought Fritz Behnke’s farm in 1972. By the late 1970’s, he was farming full-time until retiring to take care of his ailing wife. Bob enjoyed all things Wisconsin; polka dancing, the Green Bay Packers, brats and ice cream, and the outdoors. He also liked the Old West, especially Gary Cooper movies.

Salter; a sister, Carol (George) Stanchfield; a sister-in-law, Eileen Ganter; special friend Elaine Tagliapietra; and many friends, nieces and nephews.
