Robert S. "Bob" Andrews, of Appleton (formerly of Fond du Lac and Berlin), age 75, passed away at Appleton Medical Center on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, due to complications from a very recently diagnosed bone marrow condition. He was born in Fond du Lac on February 22, 1932, the son of Elmer D. and Marie D. (Wurtzel) Andrews. Robert graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1950 and then enlisted in the US Navy. serving from 1951 to 1955, with most of that time as a Sonarman aboard the Destroyer, USS Healy (DD-672). On May 18, 1963, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Petri in Fond du Lac at Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran. Bob retired from A T & T (Ameritech/SBC) in December of 1991, after 35 years of employment. He was delighted in 1986 to learn that a reunion was planned for his former shipmates from the USS Healy, and since then he had devoted his time to that cause. Since 1994, he and his wife had chaired the organization and planned for and hosted reunions at various sites throughout the US. He was also a member of the VFW and had served as Commander of Berlin Wisconsin Post #2925. He and JoAnn enjoyed traveling, including most the US and parts of Europe.Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, JoAnn; his son James W. (Natasha) Andrews of Budd Lake, NJ, and their children, Victoria, Elizabeth, and James J; his daughter, Lynn M. (Gene) Vineyard of Kansas City, MO, and their daughters, Sara and Jami; his brother, Roy W. (Patty) Andrews of Fond du Lac; his sister, Jean (Kenneth) Munson of Fond du Lac; his sister-in-law, Geraldine Andrews of Fond du Lac, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. His parents, his brother, Elmer A. "Andy" Andrews, his sister-in-law, Elaine Andrews, and his wife's parents, William J. and Gladys Petri preceded him in death.
Visitation for Mr. Robert S. "Bob" Andrews will be on Saturday, June 2, 2007, from 1:30 to 4 pm at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Avenue, Fond du Lac, WI 54935. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 4 pm at the funeral home. The Rev. Douglas Hedman will officiate and cremation will follow the services. A memorial has been established in Mr. Andrews' name.
