Ronald J. Engel, 72, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born December 29, 1951 in Fond du Lac, the son of Herman and Florence Zangl Engel.
Ron was a 1970 graduate of LP Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac. He continued his education and graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology.
Ronald was a professional geologist and owned and operated Engel & Associates Inc. He was an active member of the Oakfield Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years. He held the Chief position from 2010 – 2015 and again in 2021 – 2023. The fire department was near and dear to his heart! Ron was also a member of the Town of Byron Planning Commission and a proud member of AA.
He enjoyed hunting, rock collecting, golfing, and loved to ski out west.
He is survived by his brother, James H. Engel of Sacramento, CA; numerous cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David J. Engel and Richard A. Engel.
A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2024 at St. Paul's Cathedral, 51 W. Division Street in Fond du Lac. A short service will be held at 6:30 PM with time to share memories after the service. In lieu of the traditional interment, Ron has requested his ashes be placed in the snow at his favorite ski resort in Lake Tahoe, CA and his beloved Alaska.
