Ronald P. Welter, 79, of Johnsburg, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Liberty House in Fond du Lac. He was born in Kaukauna on March 26, 1938, the son of Richard and Helen (Van Dyke) Welter. On November 3, 1962, he was united in marriage to Gail Steede in Escanaba, Mich.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, Ronald taught in both the parochial and public school systems of Kiel and surrounding communities for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting in the National Guard in 1957 and retiring from the U.S. Army Reserve 1977, and was activated during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. Ronald was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Gail; his son, Paul; two sisters, Judy Gerrits and Lois Ragussa; five foster siblings, Mary, Carol, Janet, James and Dawn; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Helen.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg with Fr. Gary Wegner officiating. Visitation at church will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the time of Mass. Military honors will follow the Mass with cremation to follow.
