Rose Smiljanic of the town of Taycheedah, passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2024 shortly after making her 95th trip around the sun.
Rose was born on the farm in Oakfield on April 27, 1929 to John and Helen (Radeck) Smiljanic, the seventh of ten children. Her early education began at Unity School, a one room school house in Oakfield. She attended high school in Lomira and graduated with Class of 1947.
In the 50’s she went to work for the Kiekhaefer Corporation in Cedarburg. She worked directly for Carl Kiekhaefer becoming his personal secretary. She spent several decades with Mercury Marine and became aide, advisor, and confidante to Mr. Kiekhaefer. She ended her career at Mercury Racing in Taycheedah as an executive board member and part owner. She volunteered many years at Galloway House and Village. Though she traveled the world her home for the last sixty years was on “The Ledge”.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her long time partner, Charles Alexander; brothers, Roko and John; sisters, Martha, Mary, Helen, Jeanne, LuCile, and Alice.
She is survived by her brother, Douglas Smiljanic and 21 of 27 nieces and nephews.
Rose was a strong, intelligent, independent woman. An amazing daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed.
Per Rose’s wishes no funeral services will be held. A Celebration of Life gathering is planned for a later date.
