Roy W. Andrews, 80, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born in Fond du Lac on August 29, 1943, to Elmer and Marie (Wurtzel) Andrews. Roy graduated from L.P. Goodrich High School in 1961, and then served in the U.S. Navy for 5 years, where he was a cryptographer on submarines and aircraft carriers. Upon returning to Fond du Lac he worked briefly as a lineman for the local telephone company before joining the Fond du Lac Fire Department, where he served for almost 30 years. After retiring from the Department, he worked for National Exchange Bank & Trust as a courier for 15 years. He was married to Elaine Geiger on August 5, 1967, until her death in 1996. Roy married Patricia Neff in 2004 and was happy to recently celebrate their 20-year anniversary.
In his early years, Roy loved baseball, tennis, bowling, darts, fishing, golf, and the Eagles Club. Later, he enjoyed riding his Harley, grilling brats, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Gratitude Club and achieved 41 years of sobriety. He was also a member of Hope Lutheran Church, the Navy Club, and the American Legion. Roy was an excellent grand-dog babysitter! Watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow brought him much joy and happiness. He was especially proud of his grandson, Ethan Andrews, who is currently a cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy (but Roy still rooted for Navy during the Navy-Air Force games!).
Roy is survived by his wife, Patty; children, Sheryl Andrews, Jason (Aileen) Andrews, Tony (Stephanie) Neff, Jenny Neff; grandchildren, Joseph (Jessica) Neff, Hannah Neff, Ethan Andrews, Amaya Lisowe, Riley Neff, Hank Merkel, Samuel Andrews and Kanen Neff; and 2 8/9th great-grandchildren Juliette, Layton and baby-to-be Neff, bonus daughter, Jennifer (Mick) Larson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine, parents, brothers (Elmer and Robert) and sister (Jean Munson).
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be directed to Hope Lutheran Church, 260 S. Vincent St., Fond du Lac, WI, 54935 and/or the Fond du Lac Firefighters Local 400 Charitable Fund, 815 S. Main St., Fond du Lac, WI, 54935.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM -11:30 AM, Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. A private family service will follow the visitation. Cremation has taken place.
A special thank you to all his wonderful doctors and caregivers at the SSM Health Cancer Center and St. Agnes Hospital. He loved and charmed them all, often being told he was their favorite patient!
Roy’s parting words were not to cry for him, but to smile because he had 80 wonderful years and so much joy in his life. His strong faith carried him through difficult times. He had an amazing outlook on life, was an example to all, and an inspiration for many.
