Roy was born April 7, 1921 in Taylor County in the Town of Molitor, a son of Frank and Meta Clausnitzer Berndt. On November 4, 1945 he married Jerene Mae Hurtienne. She preceded him in death in 1995. Roy was a veteran of World War II, serving in Company C 1258th Combat Engineer Battalion. He was discharged on November 18, 1946. Roy worked at Hurd Millworks, and then started in the fuel oil business. In 1957 he moved to Fond du Lac and worked for Mobil Oil Corporation. In 1962 he started his own business, Berndt Pump and Tank Service. In 1980 he sold his business and worked for St. Agnes Hospital as a fireman. He retired in 1985. Roy was an avid golfer, bowler, and enjoyed camping. Survivors include one son; Steven of Fond du Lac, one daughter; Faye (Tom) Treffert of Eldorado, five grandchildren; Stacey (Dan) Thieme of Menomonee Falls, Kevin (fiancée Tina) Treffert of Brandon, Steven Treffert of Eldorado, Amanda Treffert of Eldorado, Brian Treffert of Fond du Lac, three great-grandchildren; Ashley, Samantha, and Mackenzie, one brother; Frank Berndt of Medford, two sisters; Louise Lange of Medford and Viola Pagel of Bothel, WA, and two sisters-in-law; Rachel (Merton) Vaughan of Medford and June Hurtienne of Medford. His parents and his wife preceded him in death.



Visitation for Mr. Berndt will be held on Friday, May 6, 2005 from 6-8 P.M. at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Saturday, May 7, 2005 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac with the Rev. David Dolan officiating. Entombment will follow at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum. Memorials in Roy's name may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Building Fund.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is serving the family.
