Ruth A. Sandidge, age 71 of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Hospice Home of Hope. She was born in Lancaster, Ohio on July 26, 1937 the daughter of George O. and Helen M. Miller Blazer. Ruth was a graduate of R.L. Paschal High School, Fort Worth, TX and Texas Wesleyan College, Fort Worth, TX where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Art. Later she received her Masters Degree in School Counseling from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Oshkosh, WI. She taught art for 2 years at the Middle school in Big Spring, TX. She then moved to Wisconsin where she taught Art, grades 1-8 in Cedarburg, WI, then in Howards Grove for 1 year, and finally in the Rosendale-Brandon School District for 13 years. Ruth was employed with Rosendale-Brandon School District as an art teacher and later as a guidance counselor retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. Ruth loved to do art projects-painting, drawing, etc. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano, and she belonged to a group called Singles on Stage in Appleton. She loved to read, play games, and being out in nature, gardening, hiking, bird watching, and especially traveling. She had wonderful memories of the time she spent along the east coast, Canada, Florida, Hawaii, England and her Alaskan cruise. She was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, and the Bible with Bagels group. She was also active in the P.E.O., Ala non, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters in the School Mentoring Program where she had two little sisters, Crystal and Jessica. SURVIVORS: Ruth is survived by a daughter, Victoria L. (Edward T.,) Hammill, Austin, Texas; one son, Aaron R. Sandidge, Fond du Lac; two step- grandchildren, Vanessa and Paul Hammill; five nieces and nephews; six great nieces and nephews; three great- great nieces and nephews; one cousin, Mary Jo (Russ) Harper, Chicago, IL. Ruth also had two "adopted" Grandchildren, Michael and Joel Smits. Ruth had a beloved cat Hannah that was by her side for 14 years. Her parents, two sisters, Evelyn J. Johnson and Barbara M. Fields, preceded her in death.
VISITATION: Family will receive friends from 4 "“ 7 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow Street Fond du Lac. SERVICES: Memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Tuesday at the church with Rev. Ted Drewsen officiating. Cremation has taken place. Please feel free to dress in colorful attire. A tree will be planted in Ruth's memory 1 hour prior to the visitation at the church, all friends and family are welcome.Uecker-Witt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
