Sandra S. Kastenschmidt

December 11, 1944 — July 3, 2023

Sandra S. Kastenschmidt, age 78, of Fond du Lac, passed peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Sharehaven in Oshkosh, WI. Her loving spouse and family were able to spend the last few days at her side laughing and remembering good times. “How lucky we were to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” Sandra was born on December 11, 1944, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Glenn and Madeline (Meyer) Schroeder. She was a graduate of Horace Mann High School in North Fond du Lac, where she was extremely proud of winning the Betty Crocker Cooking award.

After High School she worked for AC Nielsen and Co. until that special night when she bumped into a handsome stranger from Rosendale. Three months later they were engaged. On November 6, 1965, she married Marlin Kastenschmidt at St. Patrick’s Church in Fond du Lac. They would spend time raising their family in Beaver Dam, West Bend, and Eden, WI. She had part time jobs over the years, but she delighted in being an amazing homemaker, and providing home day care for many years. She took great pleasure in preparing big family meals and endless batches of cookies. She taught the kids the game of “button, button” and she rocked many little ones to sleep singing “You are my Sunshine.” When Marlin retired, they enjoyed time in Elcho, Rhinelander, Murrells Inlet, SC, and traveling around the country as well as several trips to Ireland. Her later years have been spent between their home in St. Peter and their lake home in Wautoma where she enjoyed sunset cruises, trips to The Moose and Pontoon Karaoke.

She is survived by three children, Kristine (Brian) Zahrobsky of Chilton, Jeffrey (Shannon) Kastenschmidt of Noblesville, IN, Steven (Beth) Kastenschmidt of Ripon, WI; her grandchildren, Meghan (Kyle) Buechel, Travis (Lynn) Duley, Elizabeth (Jacob) Schwartz, Devin and Jalyn Kastenschmidt, Kali (RJ) Rueckert, Alex (special friend Liz) Kastenschmidt, Adam Kastenschmidt and Seth Kastenschmidt, Mindi (Matt) Multhauf, Matt (Rachel) Immel, Melanie (Chris Foster) Immel, Marissa (James) Ethington; great-grandchildren, Lena, Evelyn, Josephine, Kole, Marlee, Levi, Ella, Ophelia, Ethan, Hannah, Kylie, Leah, Ada, Ian, Breyden, Madelyn, and Eliana, her brother, Jack Schroeder; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Richard Schroeder, Gloria Koentopp, Thomas Schroeder, James Schroeder.

Besides cooking, she loved flowers of any kind, especially the “Purple Ones”, a cold Guinness and the companionship of her faithful puppy Roxie.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Wisconsin American Drive, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935.
