Shirley Jean Brandt, 91, of Fond du Lac and a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home was called to her eternal home on June 1, 2011 at St. Agnes Hospital. Shirley was born on September 3, 1919, in River Falls, Wisconsin, the daughter of Caesar E. and Mary Blanche Bowen Spillcke. After her father's accidental death, Blanche married Henry H. Schultz who was a wonderful father to Shirley. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1938. She attended the St. Agnes School of Nursing and did private duty nursing until moving to Portland, Oregon during World War II, working at the Veteran's Hospital there. On February 28, 1946, Shirley married Donald John Brandt at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. They were married for 40 years with Donald passing on May 10, 1987. Shirley was such a caring, giving and wonderful wife and mother always putting everyone else before herself. She will always be with us in our hearts. Shirley was a nurse at Plymouth Hospital, Plymouth, Wisconsin in the early 1950's. After living in several midwestern states they settled in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1964. Shirley also worked for 17 years at the J.C. Penney Company, retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church "“ now Holy Family Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Aux., Senior Center writing class and the Red Hats Society. She loved reading and writing letters, scrapbooking and most of all, her family.Shirley is survived by her daughter, Penny (Dale) Dobrinski, Fond du Lac and her son, Timothy D. (Jean) Brandt, Minot, North Dakota; five grandchildren, Thomas Dobrinski, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brian (Melissa) Dobrinski, Zeeland, Michigan, Jeffrey (Kristin) Brandt, Bismarck, North Dakota, Timothy J. Brandt, fiancée, Samantha Medcalf, both of Minot, North Dakota and Dustin Salmon, Fargo, North Dakota; two great -grandchildren, Callie Ann Dobrinski and Connor Dale Dobrinski, Zeeland, Michigan; nephews, William and James Lieberman, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Thomas Bauer, Racine and niece, Shari Bauer, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; special friends, Harry and Sandy Rapp, Lynn Vogds and Barbara Lukas, good friend and writing buddy. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her sisters, Beatrice Bauer, Mondovi, Wisconsin and Maxine Lieberman, Eau Claire, Wisconsin and a brother, James Schultz, Fond du Lac and special friend, Donna Klemm, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Visitation for Shirley J. Brandt will be on Friday, June 10, 2011, from 11 to 2 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home. Liturgy of The Word for Christian Burial services will be celebrated at 2 PM at the funeral home. Deacon Larry Hughes will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment of cremated remains will be in Calvary Cemetery.
