Shirley Kirchhoff-Homberger passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10th, her loving family was at her side. Shirley was born in Hilbert, Wisconsin on May 19th, 1928. She was preceded in death by her father Lou Reblitz and her mother Catherine Barrett. Shirley graduated from Fond du Lac Commercial College and worked at CD Smith.
Shirley married the love of her life, Max Kirchhoff, Sr. in 1951. Max passed away on July 2, 1978. They lived in Fond du Lac their entire life and raised four beautiful children, Kathryn (Ron) Doyle of Fond du Lac, Max Jr., "Jay"(Janet) Kirchhoff, of Fond du Lac, Mary (Mark) Wanzer of Menomonee Falls, and Kristin (Jim) Ransom, of Neenah. Shirley and her family were very close and she was an incredibly important part of all their lives. Shirley has seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Eric and Courtney Ransom, Catherine and Elizabeth Wanzer, Sarah Kirchhoff-Johnson and Laura Kirchhoff-Schnese. She also had four great grand children, Annamae and Olivia Schnese and Parker and Bennett Johnson. Shirley lived for the grand children. She was deeply involved in their lives and talked to them literally every day. They were blessed and so was she. Shirley was always there for all of them, right up until the day she passed on.
Shirley had many friends and was involved in investment club, needlepoint group, bridge clubs and dozens of community activities. Shirley was generous with her time. She denoted many hours to the local schools, 4-H, YMCA, the high school band, junior golf and many others. She loved playing the piano, knitting and she was truly an outstanding cook. Shirley loved Christmas and had an ornament collection that spanned 6 decades. She also loved traveling and made many trips to her all time favorite vacation spot, Jekyll Island, Georgia. Although she called Wisconsin home, her extended family in Georgia will always be special.
She married Harvey Homberger in 1994, and he predeceased her in 2009. In addition to her new partner; Shirley now had three new stepchildren in her life, Kathy (Dick) Bell, Steve (Kari) Homberger and Sheryl (Greg) Detlie. Harvey and Shirley loved to travel, wintering in Florida, playing bridge with their friends, and enjoying fine dinning.Shirley made a difference in the lives of everyone she touched. She was tough-minded, but with a soft touch. Quick with a point of view, but even quicker with a hug. A big smile with an even bigger heart. We already miss her...
