Stephen V. Freund

Stephen V. Freund, age 66, of St. Peter, died Sunday, August 27, 2023, at his residence following complications from a stroke three years ago. He was born on December 5, 1956, in Fond du Lac, the son of Clarence and Edwina (Buechel) Freund. He was a 1976 graduate of Goodrich High School. On June 8, 1985, he married Karen Forward at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Steve worked as a machinist for 35 years at Mercury. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sturgeon spearing, gardening, shooting pool, woodworking, and working on his house. Steve also coached baseball in St. Peter for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Shane Freund, Zachary Freund, and Blaine Freund; his former wife and caretaker, Karen Forward; his siblings, Patricia (Paul) Buechel, Donna (Jerome) Lefeber, Annette (Michael) Lefeber, Diane (Wayne) Keifenheim, Earl Freund, Wayne (Carrie) Freund, and Stan (Lori) Freund; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Hug.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 12 noon at St. Peter’s Church-Holy Family, N8079 Church Rd, Malone, WI, 53049. A Mass of Chrisian Burial will follow the visitation at the church on Saturday at 12 noon. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow the service at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
