Steven Allen Manske, 56, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Hospice Home of Hope after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born October 21, 1955 in Rapids City, South Dakota to Harold C. and Donna M. Tautges Manske. Steve graduated from Goodrich High School in 1974. Steve married Nancy Reader in 1977. They were married for fifteen years. They had two children, Ryan and Teresa. On August 12, 2000 Steve married Mary Jo Burgess Gross at Church of Peace, Fond du Lac. He attended Moraine Park Technical College and received an associate degree in Architectural Drafting. While going to school Steve worked for Sterling Homes. After graduating he worked for Interior Systems for 18 years. He also worked at Valco Cabinets until they closed. Steve recently retired from Discher Architectural Millwork in Oshkosh where he worked for four years. We are sincerely grateful to Bruce Discher and all the staff for their understanding and support through this terrible disease. Steve is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; his children, Ryan Manske, Milwaukee, WI and Teresa (Bill) Simpson, Dubuque, IA; his two step-children, Kelly (Scott King) Gross, Fond du Lac and Matthew (Abbey Smith) Gross, Fond du Lac; his two most precious grandsons, Seth Simpson and Caden King; his father and mother, Harold and Donna Manske, Fond du Lac; his neice and nephew, Jennifer and Justin Wiskow; his mother-in-law, Carol Burgess, Fond du Lac; his sister-in-law, Shelly Burgess and her son Connor, Fond du Lac; two brothers-in-law, Brian Burgess and his children, Josh and Brittany, Fond du Lac and Scott Burgess, Fond du Lac; his special friend, who has always been like a brother, Tom "TL" Lese; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Matilda Tautges; his paternal grandparents, Harold and Viola Manske; his infant brother, Jeff Manske; his sister, Debra Wiskow; and his aunt, Mary Rentmeister; his father-in-law, Raymond Burgess.Steve was the most gentle, easy-going, kind man. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, and his fantasy football leagues. He will especially miss his fantasy football buddies who were also his ice fishing buddies. At this time, he would have been planning their yearly ice fishing weekend with meetings down at Sully's. A special thank you to Kathy and the gang at Sully's who have been extremely supportive and caring. Steve's other passion was landscaping and working in the yard. He was amazing at creating outdoor beauty. He loved being outside. He will enjoy making heaven even more beautiful. Throughout this ordeal, we have had many angels praying for us and supporting us. Thank you to everyone who has been an important part of this process. As they say, cancer is a marathon death and this has been quite the marathon. We want to thank all the staff at Hospice Home of Hope. They are truly amazing.
