Susan A. (Rudd) Buchanan, 61, of Fond du Lac passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Froedtert Hospital while surrounded by her family. She was born January 17, 1953 in Oak Park, IL, a daughter of Darwin and Miriam (Fahey) Rudd. She is a graduate of Willowbrook High School, class of 1971. She attended UW – Stout for early childhood education where she met future husband, Richard. They were married on December 30, 1972 and together raised four children in North Fond du Lac.
Susan was an award winning artist. As the proud owner of Sassy Glass, founded in 2006, she created one-of-a-kind fused glass jewelry. She left a mark on many lives in her community; a former deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, a volunteer at schools, and a Girl Scout troop leader. Prior to starting her own business, she was employed by Giddings & Lewis, Quad Graphics, and Cracker Barrel but the job she enjoyed most was being a mom.
Susan enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a love of travelling, from the early years living in Germany and travelling around Europe, to the many road trips with her family. She had a heart of gold and always went out of her way to help others in every way she could.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, three daughters Melissa (KC) Speich of Lake Villa, IL, Katie (Tony) Tautges of Lake Villa, IL, Emilee Buchanan of Fond du Lac, a son Michael (Tracy) Buchanan of Sterling, VA, and seven grandchildren, Zoe, Audrey, Cameron, Olivia, Emmitt, Castiel, and Eli. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Rudd of Romeoville, IL, sister, Gloria (Mark) Kaufman of Bolingbrook, IL, and aunt, Kay Fahey of Wheaton, IL, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Cathy.
