Sylvester F. Haensgen

Sylvester F. Haensgen, age 92, formerly of Johnsburg, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Walnut Grove Memory Care. He was born on January 22, 1919 in Johnsburg, the son of Louis and Mary (Kirsten) Haensgen. On April 24, 1946 he married Lucille Stephany at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1993. Sylvester owned and operated his own farm his entire life, he also did numerous masonry projects throughout the community for many years. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Church where he was in the choir since he was fourteen years old. He also was a member of the St. John's Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Improved Order of Redman Tribe 52, 53, and 54. Syl was a former Assistant Chief with the Calumet Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department was very important to him. He enjoyed fishing, sturgeon spearing, extensive traveling, and taking his dog "Muffy" on road trips.SURVIVORS: one brother, Orville (Mildred) Haensgen of Johnsburg, sisters-in-law, Mary Agnes Haensgen of Fond du Lac, Rosemary Schmitz of Mt. Calvary, and Rosemary Haensgen of Fond du Lac, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucille, four brothers, Clarence and his wife Frances, Alfred, Marvin and his wife Regina, and Leander, one sister, Adell and her husband Ervin Bartel, and brother-in-law John Schmitz.



VISITATION: Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 9:15-11:30 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Church, N9288 Highway W, Johnsburg. FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 11:30 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Church with the Reverend Joseph Coerber officiating. Entombment will take place at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.Special thanks to the caregivers at Walnut Grove Memory Care and Generations Homecare and Hospice for their compassion and care during Syl's stay.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or to Generations Homecare and Hospice.
