Terrence "Terry" G. Nelson, 81, of Fond du Lac (Town of Friendship) passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at SSM St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac surrounded by family.
Terry was born on March 24, 1942, in Fond du Lac, the son of Kingsley and Hilda (Hollander) Nelson. He graduated from Goodrich High School in 1960.
On October 22, 1966, Terry married Janet Bothe at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.
Terry proudly worked at the North Fond du Lac School District as their maintenance supervisor until 1999 when he suffered a debilitating stroke. At which point, his wife Janet selflessly cared and served as his primary caregiver for 23 years before he moved to Maple Meadows Assisted Living in 2021.
He enjoyed fishing and duck hunting, listening to talk radio, watching the Milwaukee Brewers, maintaining the yard, cookouts with family, taking in the view of Lake Winnebago from his living room window and let's not forget decorating for Christmas in October. He was also very proud of his hardworking grandchildren, whose strong work ethic was seamlessly passed down. Though the stroke limited his speech, he would always express his friendship and gratitude with a simple handshake to either greet you, say see you later, or as a thank you. He could also sing 'Happy Birthday' which was always a highlight on your special day.
Survivors include his wife Janet of 55 years, his children Steven G. (Lynn) Nelson and Jodi E. (Mark) Gulig; six grandchildren, Lindsay Huebner (significant other Josh Thompson) and their children MaKenna, Zoe, Ava, Bella, Raelynn Huebner and Winter Thompson, Hannah (Ben) Julka, Ashley Gulig, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Jones and their children Claire, Noah and Hannah, Logan Gulig and Gracie Gulig.
He is further survived by his brother-in-laws Carl Sorrentino, Jim Bothe, Dale (Candi) Bothe, and a sister-in-law Diane (Charlie) Kuhl, nieces, nephews, and special friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-laws Patricia Bothe and Sue Sorrentino.
The visitation will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home with service to follow visitation at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will occur at Estabrooks Cemetery in Fond du Lac after the service.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials can be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac or The Salvation Army.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Maple Meadows, Harbor Haven Health and Rehab and the ER/ICU staff at St. Agnes on his final day for providing such compassion to him.
