Veronica Mary Metzner Pauze, born April 24, 1924, in Lena, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, at 100 years of age.
Whether it was a neighbor who needed a ride to the doctor, a friend who needed some groceries or the friend of a friend who needed someplace to go on a holiday, Veronica was always there for them in her long life of humble service to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lena (Beschta) Metzner; her brothers, Syl (Marian) and Bob (Katie); her husband, of forty years, Lawrence Pauze and her sons, Glenn (Samantha) and Mark. She is survived by her sister, Germaine Pieper of Oviedo, Florida; her daughters, Yvonne Giambrone (Al), Linda Green (David), Annette Lehman (Dale), and Annmarie Johnson (Scott); her daughter-in-law, Molly Pauze Pinedo of Corpus Christi, Texas, as well as 26 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, and life-long friends.
Veronica was baptized in St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena, Wisconsin, grew up on her parent’s farm in Lena and graduated from Lena High School. She contributed to the war effort by working in the aluminum factory in Manitowoc, Wisconsin where she met her loving husband, Lawrence. They married on June 2, 1945, at St. Charles. They moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1949, where she spent the rest of her life quietly taking care of her family and whoever else needed taking care of. She served as a eucharistic minister at the hospital and the prison for many years. Also, she had a long-standing ministry of weekly leading the rosary at several local nursing homes. Veronica was very active in the Charismatic Renewal.
A few days ago, her daughters found a hand-written letter of Veronica to her family from 36 years ago. To quote the letter “When the Heavenly Father calls you home, all you will take with you is how you loved or did not love one another.” Veronica truly lived loving others. She took into her heart and into her home, family, and friends but also the lonely and forgotten of the community. Thank you, Veronica, for being a true role model of Christ’s loved for one another. Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 271 4th St. Way, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at the church at 11:00 AM.
