Viola Margaret Schmitz

July 3, 1925 — May 23, 2008

Viola Margaret Schmitz went home to Jesus on Friday, May 23, 2008. She was born on July 3, 1925, in Marytown, a daughter of Frank and Walburga Petrie Schmitz. She attended St. Mary's Visitation Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1943. In addition to the daily routine of work to do on her parents' farm, she also was employed doing factory work. On October 22, 1947, she married Adrian Schmitz and together they successfully owned and operated the Schmitz family farm on Cty Trunk Q in Johnsburg for the next 40 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Johnsburg and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. In 1987, she retired from farming, but continued to be a loving and dedicated wife, mom, grandmother, and homemaker. She was admired for her keen organizational skills as she ran an efficient and effective household with what appeared to be great ease. Her days began early and ended late and were filled with numerous projects all completed to perfection, often while enduring much fatigue. Her commitment to getting the job done right was evident in all she did, whether it was cleaning, painting, mending, cooking, etc. Her Christmas cookies were fabulous! She will also remembered for her gentle but firm guidance, her tolerance and kindness and her common-sense approach to life. A remark frequently made about Viola was "˜what a sweet lady'.Viola is survived by her husband, Adrian, 5 children, Ron (MaryAnn) of St. Augustine, FL, Marilyn (Gordy) Krueger of Fond du Lac, Michael (June Ann) of San Antonio, TX, Sharon (John) Birkhauser of Lake Forest, IL, and Sandra (Gerry) Scudella of Fond du Lac, 7 grandchildren, Sheila (John) Nasgovitz, Brian (Kris) Krueger, Angie (Mark) Kramer, Jennifer Schmitz, Jonathan (Vanessa) Schmitz, Ryan and Claire Birkhauser; 2 great-grandchildren, Brianna and Mitchell Nasgovitz.
