Virginia M. “Pat” Scharf, 92, a resident of St. Francis Home for the past 2 ½ years, died Thursday, July 10, 2014. She was born December 27, 1921, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Leander and Delima Errard Landreman. On November 15, 1941, she married Sylvester “Sy” Scharf at St. Louis Church in Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2002. Virginia graduated from Fond du Lac High School and later received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Marian College. She taught at Elizabeth Waters School for 11 years, retiring in 1978. Pat enjoyed sewing, gardening, making quilts and stuffed animals, knitting, crocheting, and spending time between their cottage at Post Lake, WI and home at Spring Hill, FL.
She is survived by three daughters, Sylvia A. Scharf of Pomona, CA, Judy (Michael “Smiley”) Halfman of Horicon, WI, and Diane Scharf-Billard (Guy) of Chantilly, VA, one son, Jeff (Kathy) Scharf of Fond du Lac, six grandchildren, Nick (Brenda) Halfman, Alex Halfman, Eric (Cara) Halfman, Gregg (Kelly) Scharf, Ben (Stephanie) Scharf, and Kirstin Billard, and nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother, James Landreman of Brantwood, WI, a sister-in-law, Connie Betz of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Her parents, husband, son Tom, daughter Mary Jo Scharf, sister Thelma Lamb, and a brother-in-law Dan Lamb preceded her in death.
Visitation for Virginia M. “Pat” Scharf will be on Friday, July 18, 2014, from 9 to 10 AM at St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday at the chapel. The Rev. Adrian Staehler OFM, Cap will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment of cremated remains will be in St. John’s Parish Cemetery, Byron following the services. The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Francis Home, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac.
