Walter "Bud" Erdmann

March 22, 1921 — September 13, 2015

Walter “Bud” Erdmann went to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the age of 94. He was born on March 22, 1921 in North Fond du Lac to Frederick and Mary (Kraft) Erdmann. Bud graduated from North Fond du Lac High School in 1938 and for two and a half years worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a carman’s helper repairing railroad cars.

He served proudly for three years as a staff sergeant in the 725th Railway Operating Battalion, Company B, in India during World War II, where his battalion helped to run the Bengal & Assam railroad that transported supplies into China. Upon returning home from the war, Bud worked for thirty-seven years as a Line Foreman for Wisconsin Power and Light, retiring in 1983.

Bud loved to play golf, and enjoyed playing in the Senior League at Rolling Meadows for many years with his good friend, Ray Miller. Bud was also a volunteer for a number of years at the Galloway House and Village, and also volunteered at the hospital. He was awarded Senior Volunteer of the Year in 2007.

Bud loved his church, St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran, and was on the church council for thirteen years and was an usher for over sixty years. He had a strong faith in God that sustained him throughout his life. Even after having a stroke in 2009, he was never one to complain, always maintaining his happy, optimistic outlook on life.

He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Erdmann of Fond du Lac; son-in-law, Dennis Giese of Fond du Lac; three granddaughters, Maureen (Bob) Poch, Megan Giese, and Rachel Giese; two great-grandsons, Logan and Kyle Poch; brother-in-law, George Casper; nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Marilyn Erdmann; daughter, Mary Giese; and three sisters.
